Details revealed of £65m hotel planned for Northern Ireland coastline

The developer behind the controversial proposals for a new hotel on Northern Ireland's coastline has outlined further details of what the £65m project will entail.

Texan-born Minka Boyd, who is leading the development with her husband Gavin from Co Derry, said it is a "privilege and honour" to have the opportunity to create the resort in an area of such natural beauty.

"It is a crown jewel," she said. "It's beautiful and priceless. As far as doing the right thing goes, I don't think you'll find a developer with a better intent than Gavin and I."

The Dunluce Resort & Spa is being developed by Causeway Coast Developments, a subsidiary of ARC Investing, which is headed up by the couple.

The aim is to build a resort to five star specifications, in the shape of a V so that 75% accommodation will offer views of the ocean, the Giant's Causeway or Donegal.

There will be 115 bedrooms, 14 duplex penthouse apartments and 48 apartments to be sold as residences, and three detached villas.

There will also be a traditional-style pub on the 10-acre site featuring a secret 30-capacity bar, state of the art fitness facilities, Olympic-sized swimming pool and ‘world class' spa.

A fine dining restaurant with sea views is expected to be led by a "well-known, local chef", with details yet to be announced.

"We're not holding back," said Boyd. "We're going all, in but even though it's going to be quality it won't be ostracizing luxury, it will be homely luxury."

The planning application for the resort, which was submitted last December, sparked a local backlash over concerns regarding its contemporary design.
