San Carlo restaurant group to launch venue on rooftop of Selfridges in Oxford Street

A partnership between Selfridges and San Carlo restaurant group will see a venue open on the roof of the iconic Oxford Street department store this Spring.

Alto by San Carlo will open on 26 April offering seasonal Italian dishes in a rooftop garden.

Guests will access the venue via an express lift opening into a floral installation studded with Italian chinotto fruit.

Marcello Distefano, managing director of the San Carlo Group said: “We’re excited to unveil our latest, exclusive concept for Selfridges most iconic location –the rooftop. Whether heading to the bar on the terrace or dining in the restaurant, we want people to feel like they’ve escaped the city to discover a real celebration of the best in Italian food, service and style.”

Bruce Langlands, Selfridges’ food and restaurants director said: “In our sixth year of hosting rooftop concepts, alto by San Carlo will bring a fresh and exciting Italian dining concept to our customers. The vibrant new menu, ambience and beautiful drinking terrace will be a destination this spring, and we look forward to welcoming customers to the space when we open in April.”

Dishes offered at the rooftop restaurant will include a roasted shellfish sharer for two of king prawns, scallops, mussels, clams and langoustines; fillet of seabass cooked in black volcanic salt from Mount Etna, Sicilly, and truffle and pecorino ravioli.

The venue, which will have a retractable roof, will feature a restaurant, sun terrace and bar.

Alto by San Carlo will open from Monday to Saturday, 11.30am to 11pm and on Sunday from 11.30am to 6pm.
