Dan Doherty leaves Duck & Waffle for new solo venture

Chef Dan Doherty has left London's Duck & Waffle to open his own restaurant.

Doherty has worked at Duck & Waffle, on the 40th floor of London's Heron Tower since he helped to launch the 24/7 restaurant as its executive chef in 2012.

He later became chef consultant and director, with Tom Cenci moving into the executive chef position.

He said he hoped to share news about his own restaurant "very soon".

He declined to reveal more details about the project but said it would be a completely new venture.

In the meantime, he is set to appear on BBC TV show Britain's Best Home Cook, which starts on BBC1 on 3 May.

He will appear as a judge alongside Mary Berry, Claudia Winkleman and Chris Bavin.

Doherty started his career at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts as an apprentice with Michelin-starred 1 Lombard Street in London under mentor Herbert Berger.

He moved to catering firm Roux Fine Dining before accepting a head chef position at the Ambassador in London's Exmouth Market, followed by a position as head chef at the Empress at Victoria Park.

In 2010, he became head chef of Meantime's restaurant the Old Brewery in Greenwich, before taking up his role at Duck & Waffle.

A spokesperson for Duck & Waffle said: "Tom Cenci is the executive chef at Duck & Waffle, and has been for the past year while Dan has been working as chef consultant and director.

"Dan has now moved on to focus on his own projects, we look forward to seeing all the great things to come for him as we know there will be many."
