Nearly £2m sought for Bank House hotel in King's Lynn

Bank House, a boutique hotel in King's Lynn, has gone on the market for £1.9m as the owners are looking to "semi-retire".

Anthony and Jeanette Goodrich have owned the riverside property for 10 years, converting it from a private house that offered some bed and breakfast rooms.

The couple plan to focus on their other hospitality business, the Rose & Crown pub with rooms in nearby Snettisham, which was named Pub of the Year in the 2015 Good Pub Guide.

"We built Bank House up from zero and it's still going very strongly. For the first six months of this year we've been 14% up like for like on sales. It's still growing and we feel it has an awful lot left in it for someone else to come in. It's just that my wife and I need to slow down a little bit," Anthony Goodrich told The Caterer.

"We've spent most of our energies in the last few years on Bank House so while the Rose & Crown has been going along very nicely we perhaps need to give it a reboot.

"We have a good time there and we just want to focus on that and spend less of our seven days a week working on both hotels. It's a semi-retirement but we will be retaining the Rose & Crown for the foreseeable future."

A detached Grade II- and Grade II*-listed building, Bank House comprises 12 bedrooms and a bar and dining area for 150 covers. It also features external riverside decking with seating for a further 60 covers.

Tim Gooding, director at Christie & Co's Ipswich office, who is handling the sale, added: "Bank House really is one of the most attractive and historic properties we presently have on the market and its growth trajectory proves the popularity of the operation and the demand for its quality offering."

The agent is asking £1.9m for the freehold property.
