Former Bridgwater Hospital site with hotel planning permission for sale

A development site with planning permission for a 100-bedroom hotel and restaurant close to the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset is on the market, with a £2.6m price tag.

The planning permission will allow for the development of a hotel within the former Bridgwater Hospital, which stands on the 2.13 acre site.

Further buildings within the grounds are being sold with approval for a children's day nursery and leisure club.

Simon Stevens, director of property agent Lambert Smith Hampton who is overseeing the sale, said the site will create interest due to its proximity to the power station which is due to be completed in 2025.

"This is an unusual, rarely available site with excellent potential in an area that is already benefiting from significant investment," he said.

"Hinkley Point is expected to create more than 25,000 new jobs in the region and generate significant opportunity for local, national and international businesses, as well as enhance demand for housing and overall values in the area."

Last year Zeal Hotels secured planning permission for a three-star, 123-bedroom hotel at the Woodlands Business Park in Bridgwater. The hotel, which is expected to be branded and run by a management company, is due to open next year.
