Manchester's night tsar to hear tipping gripes

Manchester's new night tsar is to hold a special event next month where he will invite the city's restaurant and bar staff to share their thoughts and experiences when it comes to tipping and service charges.

Sacha Lord (pictured), who runs Manchester's Parklife festival as well as the club nights series Warehouse Project, will hold the event on 2 August at the Deaf Institute, which is open to staff who work between 6pm and 6am in the hospitality sector.

It comes after Lord heard reports about how some local restaurants were taking a high percentage of card tips, while employees were forced to pay out of their own pockets for mistakes such as taking orders incorrectly, according to the Manchester Evening News.

"Some of those employees aren't on great wages so they need those tips. It makes a massive difference."

He said he wanted to create an open dialogue on the issue and has suggested drawing up a panel of stakeholders involved in Manchester's night economy to improve the situation.
