Four-star hotel planned as part of Cardiff Airport redevelopment
A new four-star hotel is set to be built at Cardiff Airport as part of a masterplan to redevelop the facility and construct a new "smart" terminal.
The masterplan, which was launched for consultation yesterday, proposes the construction of the first on-site hotel at the airport.
As well as providing accommodation for the additional 1.5 million passengers expected to pass through the airport each year as a result of the expansion, the hotel is also expected to provide business meeting and conference facilities.
The masterplan for the airport, which is owned by the Welsh government and is based near Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, sets out a series of milestones over the next 20 years.
A final plan is expected in autumn this year.
Roger Lewis, chairman of Cardiff Airport, said: "2018 has been a transformational year for Cardiff Airport and for Wales as we've already welcomed over 9% more passengers to the airport and more inbound visitors to the country than ever before.
"We have always been ambitious with our plans and this draft masterplan continues to show the confidence we have in our business and in the region. The airport plays a vital role in delivering for Wales and developing even further as a viable alternative gateway to the UK."
