Mandarin Oriental anticipates ‘partial reopening' in fourth quarter of the year following fire

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has said it anticipates a "partial reopening" in the fourth quarter of the year.

The hotel closed following the outbreak of a fire on June 6. Some 120 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze, just a week after the hotel had unveiled a multi-million pound renovation.

In an update published to its website the hotel has said that fire damage was mainly confined to the exterior courtyard, with limited impact to interiors.

The statement continues: "Repairs are well underway and we anticipate a partial re-opening in the fourth quarter of the year. We will continue to provide updates on a regular basis."

London Fire Brigade has said the blaze at the 181-bedroom, five-red-AA-star hotel on William Street, Knightsbridge, is believed to have started when the by-product of welding work landed on the felt lining of a planted wall, setting it alight.

No injuries resulted from the blaze, which saw 36 hotel guests and 250 hotel staff evacuated.
