Two Christian Guild hotels sold to Carlauren Group

Christian Guild Hotels has sold two of its properties to the Carlauren Group off a guide price in excess of £2.9m.

The 61-bedroom Abbot Hall hotel in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, and the 23-bedroom Lindors Country House hotel (pictured) in Lydney, Gloucestershire, were put up for sale earlier this year for a combined price of £3m.

Somerset-based real estate company the Carlauren Group has a portfolio including medium- to long-term resort accommodation and care homes.

The sale of the two hotels leaves Christian Guild Hotels with three properties: Treloyhan Manor in St Ives, Cornwall; Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth, Devon; and Willersley Castle, near Matlock, Derbyshire.

Abbot Hall was built in 1840 and has 36 bedrooms in its main house plus a 14-bedroom bungalow, five lodges and separate owner's accommodation, as well as a restaurant, coffee shop and two conference rooms.

Lindors Country House hotel has five lodges, three conference rooms and the 64-cover Stowes restaurant. The main section of the property was built in the 1830s and has a wing dating to 1660.

Christian Guild Hotels was represented jointly by Savills and Musson Liggins. Christian Guild is a trading name of Methodist Guild Holidays, which today is a multi-denominational holiday organisation.

Tom Cunningham, hotels director at Savills, said: "Both of these historic hotels benefit from a robust business and leisure trade, attracting interest from a wide range of investors. We are pleased with the strong sale price achieved on behalf of Christian Guild Hotels."
