Opheem’s Aktar Islam has confirmed that he will be opening his third restaurant next year.
The chef wrote on Instagram that “2019 will welcome the 3rd addition to the AI Restaurants family! Another iconic signature restaurant planned for our beautiful city!”
The statement was accompanied by a photo of floor plans and concept pictures for the opening, which appears to be set across two storeys.
While further details are yet to be announced, Islam told The Caterer that the plan is “the next in a line of several new boutique restaurants for Birmingham”.
The plan marks a rapid expansion for Islam, who opened his Opheem restaurant in Birmingham in May.
The chef shot to prominence in 2009 after his kitchen at Lasan – part of the Lasan group, which he has since left – was the first to be awarded ‘best local restaurant’ by Gordon Ramsay on his F-Word TV show.
