House of Fraser coffee shop owner awaits news of department stores' future

Catering company Massarella, which runs coffee shops in House of Fraser branches, is waiting to discover what Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley has planned for the future of the department stores.

Ashley purchased the 169-year-old department store business for £90m on Friday, just three hours after it fell into administration.

Massarella has not made an official statement at this time, but confirmed that it had a number of coffee shops within stores.

Ashley has said he wants to turn 59-store strong House of Fraser into the "Harrods of the high street".

Massarella was founded in 1864 and operates more than 120 cafés and restaurants throughout the UK.

House of Fraser declined to comment at this time.
