Green light for £20m Birmingham Native aparthotel

Aparthotel brand Native is set to open its first site in Birmingham in a listed historical building in the city centre.

Owner Euro Property Investments has won planning permission to transform the currently vacant Louisa Ryland House into a 182-bedroom aparthotel from Birmingham City Council.

Around £20.6m has been earmarked to bring the property back into use, which is made up of three Grade II-listed buildings which were all significantly damaged during WWII, and further damaged during an IRA attack in 1974.

The building's ground floor is planned to have a reception and lounge bar as well as a planted courtyard. In addition a restaurant is proposed at the corner of Newhall Street/Cornwall Street and café at the corner of Newhall Street/Edmund Street.

Native announced a partnership with developer First Base last month with plans to create up to £400m of aparthotels across the UK over the next two years. The brand operates 1,500 units in 16 locations across London with locations in Manchester and Glasgow set to open this year.
