Harry Ramsden reports £5m pre-tax loss

Fish and chip shop chain Harry Ramsden has reported pre-tax losses of £5m for 2017 following the off-loading of several loss-making sites.

The company saw revenue fall from £16.3m to £14.9m year on year while the £5m pre-tax loss, recorded in documents filed with Companies House, compares to profits of £1.4m the previous year.

The company said, which has exited six sites, said it continues to "review the most appropriate locations and formats for the trading estate going forward".

The impairment charge provision relating to the closures for 2017 amounted to £2.4m.

Harry Ramsden operates 38 owned and franchised restaurants in the UK and has a partnership with motorway services provider Welcome Break.
