South Kensington's 54 Queen's Gate hotel reopens with new design

Bedrooms in the newly refurbished 24-bedroom 54 Queen's Gate hotel in London's South Kensington have been dedicated to some of the most illustrious former residents of the surrounding area.

Owned by Egyptian national Moteia Ismail and his family since 2006, the hotel will reopen at the end of the month following an extensive refurbishment with Bespoke Hotels providing marketing support.

Characters reflected in the design of the bedrooms within the Grade II-listed, Edwardian property include literary greats such as Henry James, Oscar Wilde and George Eliot, as well as suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst and film director Alfred Hitchcock.

Interior design company A & J D'alton, whose previous hotel work has included Cotswold House Hotel & Spa in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, has created the new look with a focus on a tonal palette.

Tony D'Alton, of A & J D'Alton, said: "Our objective with this project was to bring a sense of Kensington's rich history to the guest, while maintaining the privacy and intimate service with which 54 Queen's Gate has become known".

The hotel's general manager James Menhinick added: "We are delighted to have been able to both enhance our offering, as well as usher in a bold and exciting new look for the property. The aim is to provide something different for those visiting Kensington, an attractive and unique option for guests who want seclusion, while maintaining a host of London's foremost sights on their doorstep."

Room rates start from £185 for a single, £225 for a double and £300 for the Howard Carter suite.
