Soho Wala to open at Soho Courthouse hotel

New Indian street food concept Soho Wala is opening at the Soho Courthouse hotel in London this month.

The concept has been developed by Mastcraft Hotels’ culinary development director Preet Tandi, who was tasked with developing new fine and casual dining concepts for the group following his appointment earlier this year.

The 50-cover restaurant, adjacent to the hotel, will be accessible through its own listed entrance on Great Marlborough Street. Dishes from the menu will include kurkure bhaji, crispy lotus root and okra; mirchi matchstick chicken with fresh green chilli, lime and root ginger; and Assam tea brulée with vanilla ice-cream and malai crème.

The term ‘wala’ (pronounced ‘valla’) is commonly used across Indian trading to describe a merchant or seller of the finest fare.

Tandi was previously executive development chef at Edwardian Hotels London for two years, before which has was executive head chef at Madhu’s Heathrow and a senior chef de partie at Nobu London.

Mastcraft Hotels’ portfolio comprises five hotels: two Courthouse hotels in Soho and Shoreditch, the Washington in Mayfair, the Bentley in Kensington and Heston Hyde in Hounslow.
