Two-Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw has confirmed that his seafood restaurant at London’s Capital hotel is to close, marking the end of a six-year partnership with the business.
The contract between Outlaw and the five-red-AA-star, 49-bedroom Knightsbridge hotel will be terminated at the end of March 2019.
An announcement is expected soon regarding Outlaw’s future plans for a London restaurant to join his existing three outlets in Cornwall, including the two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac, and one in Dubai.
Patricia Greenwood, director of sales and marketing at the Capital, said that the relationship with Outlaw had been a very good one and it was “a happy mutual decision” for it to come to an end. “We have exciting plans afoot, with the hotel carrying on its tradition of bringing on chefs.”
Past head chefs at the hotel have included Eric Chavot, Phillip Britten, Brian Turner and Richard Shepherd.
Outlaw’s at the Capital won a Michelin star in the 2014 guide, but lost it in October this year following the departure of head chef Tom Brown, who left the hotel to open Cornerstone in Hackney Wick earlier this year.
Details of Outlaw’s departure from the Capital was revealed just over a week after Joanne Taylor-Stagg stepped down as general manager of the hotel, six months after her appointment. She replaced Michael Purtil who had undertaken a six-month contract to cover former general manager Kate Levin’s maternity leave.
Levin’s decision not to return to the business marked the end of her family’s 49-year relationship with the hotel.
Kate’s father David Levin, who was named Hotelier of the Year by The Caterer in 1994, started building the Capital in 1969 and opened the business two years later.
The hotel was sold by the Levin family in January 2017 to the US-based Warwick Hotels and Resorts.
Louis Vanheusden, vice president, special assistant to the president, Warwick Hotels & Resorts, has taken over the running of the Capital and sister property, the 12-bedroom Levin hotel.
