Mark Poynton to oversee kitchen at new Cambridge sandwich bar

Chef Mark Poynton has announced that he will oversee the kitchen of new Cambridge sandwich bar and bottle shop Thirsty & Hungry when it opens in January 2019.

Thirsty & Hungry will be Thirsty Cambridge's second site in the city and serve coffee, brunch, lunch and cakes as well as a range of low-intervention wines and craft beers from its site in King Street.

Poynton will oversee the kitchen while also planning the opening of his own new site in the city under his MJP brand. Poynton was formerly head chef of Alimentum in Cambridge, leaving earlier this year. The restaurant has since closed.

The chef said: "Thirsty & Hungry seemed a perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different. It's all about doing the simple things really well, filling people up and giving good value for money."

Poynton will create a lunch menu of sandwiches and other grab-and-go food, complemented by a range of nibbles, sharing plates and lighter dishes.

The site will be managed by David Martin, previously of Cambridge Wine Merchants, who added: "I'm very excited to get involved with another new format at Thirsty & Hungry."
