Meat Liquor Brixton shuts down as operator sources new site

Meat Liquor Brixton has announced that it has closed after five years of trade.

Operated by Meatailer, the south London branch previously traded as Chickenliquor before it was rebranded in an attempt to turn its fortunes around. The outlet closed on Sunday 6 January.

The closure came despite an increase in trade for the firm, which saw it lift its balance sheet out of the red in its end-of-year results up to 24 June 2018, posting £33,0000 in pre-tax profits compared to the previous year’s £753,000 loss.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the firm said: “Nearly five years after setting up shop, we’re sad to have to announce Meat Liquor Brixton, Market Row, will close for business on Sunday 6th January.

“We adore Brixton and our intention is that this is only farewell for now, not forever, and we are actively looking for another site. Watch this space.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would like to thank all of our amazing customers and the local businesses who have joined us for the ride.”

The firm is now left with 11 sites across the capital with further cuts to the portfolio expected. Meatailer is also due to cease operations at its flagship site Meat Liquor W1 in February to make way for a redevelopment of the surrounding building.

As with the Brixton site, the firm is believed to be sourcing an alternative location nearby to resume operations in.
