Social hospitality firm Change Please and foodservice operator Apetito UK have each been named winners of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
The awards, which have existed in various forms since 1966, are handed out based on advice from the prime minister and an advisory committee, before being given the royal seal of approval.
Apetito UK, the Trowbridge-based health and social care foodservice firm, won recognition for the second time after being recognised for sustainable development in the most recent awards. Apetito won an award for innovation in 2016.
Meanwhile Change Please, a socially minded firm that trains the homeless to become coffee baristas, was awarded for promoting opportunity through social mobility.
Change Please founder Cemal Ezel said, “It’s an incredible honour and we’re encouraged to see that efforts to make positive social change, like ours, are being recognised by bodies as prestigious as the Queen’s Awards.
“I hope it will encourage other social enterprises to pursue their goals – if we all support them, we can make a huge difference to the world.”
