Deliveroo accelerates expansion after securing funding boost
Deliveroo has announced that it is accelerating its UK expansion and moving into 10 new towns, a week after landing a funding boost.
The delivery platform will begin operating in towns including Burton upon Trent, Nuneaton, Chesterfield, Mansfield, Warrington, Wigan, Middlesbrough, Farnborough and Harlow in the next week.
Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu said: "Deliveroo is expanding rapidly across the UK, bringing more people amazing food and helping restaurants to grow their businesses by increasing sales.
"At a challenging time for the high street, Deliveroo offers restaurants access to new customers they wouldn't otherwise be able to reach. We also help our restaurant partners cut costs and use unique data insights so they can make the most of the opportunity delivery offers. As a result, Deliveroo is helping to create thousands of jobs in high streets across the UK."
The news comes a week after Amazon was been announced as "the largest investor" in a new $575m (£450m) funding boost to Deliveroo.
The company had said that the finance would be used to expand Deliveroo's tech team at its UK headquarters in London, expand its reach to new customers by linking up with more restaurants and provide ongoing innovation through its deliver-only kitchens called Editions.
The platform also released analysis by Capital Economics showing that the group had helped to create 25,000 jobs in the restaurant industry since its launch six months ago; on top of the 25,000 self-employed riders it works with.
Deliveroo has also said it helped partner restaurants and their supply chains generate additional revenue of £1b.
