Hospitality Superheroes mentoring scheme launched for apprenticeship week

Umbrella Training has introduced a mentoring programme for apprentices, working with the likes of Chantelle Nicholson, Mark Sargeant and Harry Murray.

Its Hospitality Superheroes programme has been launched to mark Hospitality Apprenticeship Week, with 15 hospitality experts on-hand to support apprentices at the start of their career.

Hospitality Apprenticeship Week is designed to provide an opportunity for employers to engage with school and college leavers to showcase the variety of career opportunities available within the hospitality sector.

Umbrella Training said that it had matched mentors to apprentices based on their roles and apprenticeship standard, while their progress would be used to inspire new entrants to the industry.

Other mentors will include Brian Turner, Cyrus Todiwala, Sally Beck and Joanne Taylor Stagg.

Founder and chief executive Adele Oxberry, who is also a mentor, said: “We are delighted to bring together some of the industry’s most successful and inspirational leaders alongside some of the stars of the future.

“Mentoring is such an important part of any individual’s development and it’s vital that we work with young people to support them as they move through their careers.

“To reinforce the recent government tourism deal, we will do what we can to promote the industry. By using the career stories of our mentors, we will help to inspire the next generation of Superheroes.”

Institute of Hospitality chief executive Peter Ducker added: “The gift of mentoring is one of the greatest that anyone can receive. The lucky mentees in the umbrella scheme will benefit from decades of experience freely drawn upon by seasoned industry professionals. Mentoring sends a strong message: we welcome you into hospitality and we want to help you succeed in your career.”
