Petition launched against closure of Oxford Brookes restaurant

A petition has been launched in support of Oxford Brookes’ Brookes restaurant, part of the university’s School of Hospitality Management.

A consultation is understood to be taking place in relation to the future of the restaurant. Nearly 900 people have signed the petition.

The petition describes the restaurant as an “integral part of the curriculum”, which provides “valuable practical experience to both first and final year International Hospitality Management students every academic year that prepares them to enter the hospitality industry with confidence and excitement”.

A statement on the petition said: “We support Brookes restaurant and believe the Oxford School of Hospitality Management would not be able to deliver the same world-class hospitality education should the restaurant cease its operations.”

A university spokesperson said: “A consultation is currently taking place with staff in relation to the future of the Brookes restaurant. No decision on the restaurant will be taken until after the consultation has concluded and it will continue to operate in the 2019/2020 academic year regardless of the outcome.”
