Deliveroo has put together a new Restaurant Rescue Team in a bid to help restaurants at risk of closing by giving them space in its network of dark kitchens.
The delivery platform has said the team will analyse where restaurant concepts could have delivery potential geographically and look to match them with its Editions sites.
Alongside this, it will offer preferential commission rates and cover set-up costs for a limited period.
Deliveroo has said the scheme is aimed at those being pushed out of bricks-and-mortar sites by escalating costs.
Chinese restaurant the Good Earth had traded in West Hampstead for more than 20 years before increasing costs saw it close, moving into an Editions delivery-only kitchen in nearby Swiss Cottage to maintain a presence in north London.
Director Andrew Kwok said: “Joining Deliveroo Editions was an easy decision for us, as it meant there was little upfront cost without the risk of a high capital expenditure typically required to set up a new business. The closure of our West Hampstead site was not easy, but at least now we can be assured of continued employment for a few of our staff.”
