Birmingham’s California Pizza is Pizza Restaurant of the Year in the 1994 Pizza and Pasta Awards. Gianni pizzeria and restaurant in Harrogate won the award for Pasta Restaurant of the Year, while PizzaExpress was named best overall operator. A special commendation went to Casa Italia in Southport, Merseyside, for its consistently high quality.
The results of the Catering Equipment Distributors Association (CEDA)/Caterer & Hotelkeeper New Equipment Awards were announced last week. The winners of the three groups were RB Distributors for its BurnGuard Glove (light duty), W&G Sissons for an automatic hand wash basin unit (medium duty), and Falcon Catering for the Convectasteam combination oven (heavy duty).
Bristol’s Marriott Hotel has been named Best Hotel of the Year for 1994 by the Institute of Travel Management.
Lothian Catering Services, the region’s school meals and welfare catering direct service organisation, has gained accreditation for quality standard BS5750.
WINE WAITER AWARD
A SPECTACULAR display of wine serving and identification has won Mark Walter, assistant head sommelier at Hampshire’s Chewton Glen hotel, the title of 1994 Champagne Ruinart UK Wine Waiter of the Year, organised by the Academy of Food & Wine Service.
Philip Dougherty, restaurant manager at the Chester Grosvenor hotel, was runner up in the event, while Mourad Dine, head sommelier of London’s Dorchester, came third.
