First-time buyers for food-led Somerset inn

First-time licensees David and Linda Underdown are the new owners of the Olde Forge Inn, a food-led pub in the Somerset village of Curry Rivel, near Langport.

Originally a working forge that dates back to the 16th century, the inn is believed to have monastic origins and to be linked to the nearby church by an underground tunnel.

The Grade II-listed thatched building, built from local blue lias stone, was converted into a bar and restaurant 30 years ago when an impressive vault (now a dining area) was uncovered.

The property incorporates a bar, a 40-seat restaurant, a 20-seat cellar restaurant, and a three-bedroom attached thatched cottage.

The Bristol office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off a guide price of £430,000 on behalf of Paul and Carol Burns.
