London & Edinburgh buys Durham hotel

The Fir Tree Country Hotel in Crook, County Durham, has been sold through agent Christie + Co to London & Edinburgh Inns.

It includes a lounge bar that can accommodate about 60 seated customers, a 70-seat restaurant, 14 letting bedrooms, and three-bedroom owner's accommodation.

Graham Dodds, from Christie + Co's Newcastle Office, commented: "The previous owners, Mr and Mrs Lawrie Stewart, had owned the hotel for approximately three years and in this time they decorated and refurbished both the private and public areas, but feel that they are unable to fulfil the obvious potential the hotel has to offer."

The hotel was sold to London & Edinburgh Inns for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £465,000 for the freehold interest.
