McKever Hotels snaps up Ayr hotel for around £1m

Glasgow-based McKever Hotels has bought the three-star Cariston hotel in the centre of Ayr for a sum close to the asking price of £1m.

The detached building in Miller Road, which is within walking distance of the seafront, has 13 en-suite bedrooms, a brassserie and bistro that can seat 80 people between them, a lounge bar and a function suite for up to 150 people.

Previous owners Grant and Hilary Steel built up its reputation as one of the finest hotels in the area for food, offering extensive bar lunches, suppers and a la carte dinners.

The Glasgow office of Christie + Co handled the sale of the freehold property. It is the third hotel the property agent has acquired for McKever Hotels this year.

The Cariston becomes the eighth property to be managed by McKever Hotels on behalf of the McKever Group, which owns a total of 14 hotels.
