Top regional chef buys Somerset village inn

Guy Arnold and Eddie Street have bought the leasehold on the Monkton Inn on the edge of the Somerset village of West Monkton off an asking price of £79,500.

Street, who has been voted one of the top 20 chefs in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset areas, has headed up a revamp of the food side and extended the service to cater for family and social events such as weddings, christenings, wakes and parties.

The new owners have refurbished the two-storey, detached property which provides a bar, a 42-seat restaurant, and three-bedroom owners' accommodation on the first floor with kitchenette and bathroom.

The inn, which is three miles from Taunton, also offers a lawned garden with two 300-year-old yew trees, parking for 30 cars, and a trade patio area that will be used for al fresco dining.

Stonesmith of Exeter sold the leasehold on behalf of Steve Dillon and his wife.
