Blacklock to open its biggest restaurant in Covent Garden as group seeks B Corp status

Chophouse brand Blacklock is to open its fourth and biggest restaurant yet on 7 February in London's Covent Garden.

The new restaurant will open in Bedford Street in a building that used to house the King's Coachmakers, seating 110 covers. It will join Blacklock's flagship on Soho's Great Windmill Street, which opened in 2015, as well as sites in the City and Shoreditch, which opened in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The venue will introduce new and lesser-known cuts of meat to the menu, including Denver and tri-tip steaks, from long-term partner, farmer and butcher Philip Warren, who manages and cares for Blacklock's herd in Cornwall. It will also serve wine on tap and by the litre.

The group said it had begun the process of applying for B Corp certification, which accredits a company's commitment to purpose over profit. The group already plants a tree for every customer, an initiative launched during lockdown, which has so far planted more than 125,000 trees, and for every cocktail sold a donation is made to charity End Youth Homelessness.

Owner Gordon Ker said: "It's been a rough two years for everybody and so, over three years since we last opened a Blacklock, we are bubbling over with excitement to be looking forward, growing again and opening our fourth restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden and, in particular, creating fantastic new opportunities for our brilliant and loyal teams as well as introducing never-before-seen dishes to the menu for our guests. We cannot wait to open and become part of the local area, home to so many other fantastic restaurants, theatres and history."
