The chophouse restaurant will work with Midlands suppliers to create new dishes and drinks
Blacklock is to open its first restaurant in Birmingham this autumn.
The chophouse group will transform the ground floor of St Philip’s House in the city centre into a 100-seat restaurant and bar.
It will be the seventh restaurant for Blacklock, which was founded by ex-lawyer Gordon Ker in a Soho basement in 2015.
It has since opened Blacklock City in 2017, Blacklock Shoreditch in 2018, Blacklock Covent Garden in 2022 and Blacklock Canary Wharf in 2023, while the group’s first regional restaurant launched in Manchester last year.
The Birmingham menu will offer a variety of steaks and chops cooked over charcoal as well as Blacklock’s signature white cheesecake dessert, which is dolloped out at the table by waiters.
Ker said: “10 years on from that shoestring conversion of an old Soho basement, we’re very excited to be embarking on the restoration of one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham.
“The city’s vibrant culture and thriving local food scene has meant we’ve always wanted to call it home. We’ve looked high and low for the perfect spot and St Philip’s House has such a rich history with plenty of stories to tell. We’re looking forward to bringing it back to life, becoming part of the local community and filling the restaurant with plenty of happy guests.”
Blacklock earned B Corp certification in 2023 and plans to work with new suppliers in the Midlands to source produce for new dishes and drinks on the Birmingham menu.
Big Mamma, another London-based restaurant brand, opened its first Birmingham restaurant last year.
