Boxpark to open first Liverpool site in 2023

Boxpark is to open in Liverpool in 2023, marking the first development of its kind for the dining, retail and leisure group outside of London.

It has agreed to a 15-year lease with Terracotta Asset Management Limited for the Canning Hall site in the south of Liverpool city, which is located within the Baltic Triangle district, formerly an old industrial zone.

The existing 1980s warehouse building will be transformed into a large ground floor area, small mezzanine and outdoor terrace featuring 10 kitchen units and three internal bars.

The venue spans 21,430 sq ft in total and will seat 400 internal and 200 external covers.

It will be the sixth overall opening for Boxpark, which was founded in London's Shoreditch in 2010 and has since expanded to Croydon and Wembley.

In April, Boxpark announced the launch of its sister brand, premium food and beverage concept Boxhall, which is due to open in Bristol and London Liverpool Street in 2023.

It comes after Boxpark received investment from mid-market private equity firm LDC in 2021, which has been fuelling the group's national expansion plans.

Simon Champion, chief executive of Boxpark, said: "Our team have searched extensively for sites in Liverpool since 2016, having considered multiple locations across the city.

"As a dynamic and fast-growing business, we hope Boxpark will be an exciting addition to Liverpool's buzzing food and drink scene, offering an all-day food and entertainment destination."

Roger Wade, who was chief executive of Boxpark for 10 years, stepped down at the end of May.
