Browns hotel, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire

Pub operators with a taste for the written word will have the chance to buy Dylan Thomas's old local next month, when Browns hotel in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, goes under the hammer.

 

Thomas was a regular at Browns while penning works such as Under Milk Wood, and is said to have drawn inspiration for his characters from fellow patrons.

 

Browns has attracted a long line of tourists and celebrity visitors over the years, including two US presidents, and is being offered with an impressive collection of memorabilia, including Thomas's bed, table and chairs. The Grade II-listed Georgian building boasts period features and has four letting flats on the upper floors, with a connected bungalow offering three-bedroom owners' accommodation.

 

Terry Thomas of Carmarthen-based property agent Terry Thomas & Co, which is handling the sale, said the company had received interest in the property from around the world. A number of celebrities have been linked to a possible bid, including actor Piers Brosnan, rocker Mick Jagger and Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrisey.
