The historic hotel closed in January after entering liquidation
The Castle hotel in Tamworth is set to reopen after being acquired out of liquidation.
The Grade II-listed property closed in January after its owners Rest House entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation after struggling with financial difficulties.
Now the historic hotel has been acquired by an unnamed private investor who intends to refurbish and relaunch the property.
It was advertised in the region of £900,000 but previously changed hands for around £2m in 2015.
The 17th century hotel is situated adjacent to Tamworth Castle, which overlooks the River Anker. It has 20 ensuite bedrooms, two wedding and conferencing suites, a restaurant with seating for approximately 80 covers, and a bar.
It is also home to a former nightclub which was granted planning consent in 2022 for change of use into two apartments.
Toby O’Sullivan of Watling Real Estate Birmingham, which sold the hotel, said: “The Castle hotel was a well-known and popular wedding and events venue, and we are pleased to have achieved a sale in what is a difficult market for hospitality.
“We are especially pleased the Castle hotel will continue to trade as a hotel, bringing new jobs and visitors to Tamworth.”
Amy Keogh and Will Golding of Browne Jacobson represented the joint liquidators, and Usman Javed of Ahmad & Williams Solicitors acted for the buyer.
