The former Humo head chef will take the reins at Moi in London’s Wardour Street as the restaurant unveils a new menu and cocktail bar
Chef Robbie Jameson has been named executive chef at Mad Restaurant Group following his appointment as head chef of Alta earlier this year.
In his expanded remit, Jameson will continue to oversee the kitchen at Alta, situated on London’s Kingly Street, while also taking the reins at Mad Restaurant stablemate Moi, also in London’s Soho.
Jameson will work alongside Moi head chef Gustavo Tavares and head sushi chef Lubo Haponik to direct the restaurant’s culinary offering.
The Scottish-born chef joined Mad Restaurant’s Alta following a little over a year as head chef at Humo in London’s Mayfair, where he took over from from executive chef Miller Prada.
Mad founder Artem Login said Moi will “move closer towards Japanese izakaya culture – a style of dining centred around relaxed drinking, sharing and socialising” under Jameson’s leadership, although “the cooking remains rooted in open-fire whilst drawing on Japanese influences and techniques”.
Moi’s updated menu will offer “a wider range of snacks, small bites and skewers” alongside larger dishes from the grill including octopus skewers with gochujang sauce and lime, lamb belly with curry emulsion, agedashi tofu with leek, myoga and ginger and Iberico pork tonkatsu.
The restaurant has also relaunched its in-house cocktail and hi-fi bar, formerly called the Listening Room, as Room 86.
The music-led cocktail bar, accessible via its own dedicated entrance on Wardour Street, will now curate its nightly listening experiences around different music genres, alongside running a range of one-off events and brand collaborations.
“Room 86 is about creating a unique place in Soho for creative people to meet, listen to great music and be part of the community. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. We want to create the kind of night you’ll still be talking about the next morning,” said Login.
