Edenhall Country House hotel on the market for first time in 17 years

The Edenhall Country House hotel near Penrith in Cumbria has been put up for sale for the first time in 17 years as its owners look to retire.

Paula and Wayne Williams have owned and operated the 25-bedroom hotel since 2008 when they bought it off a guide price of £985,000.

It is now being marketed by Christie & Co at an asking price of £1.29m for the freehold.

Edenhall includes a bar, restaurant, function room, conservatory and a two-bedroom owners’ apartment. There is also a three-bedroom duplex apartment that sleeps up to seven people and can be let as self-contained, self-catering accommodation to generate additional income.

Paula said: “When we bought Edenhall, we were new to the hotel business and wanted a successful, thriving business at the heart of the village community. We worked hard to create a business where everyone feels welcome, guests return regularly, locals support us and in turn we have a great reputation and a thriving business.

“Having made this our home for the last 17 years, the time has come for us to retire and step away from the business, but we will be sad to leave. We have been privileged to have met wonderful guests over the years, and we do hope that the new owners will enjoy their time here as much as we have.”

Graham Wilkinson of Christie & Co said the hotel was used for leisure and business stays as well as weddings and functions.

He added: “Businesses that offer a range of income streams, a great location and a strong reputation are always much sought after and as such we anticipate a good level of interest.”
