Din Tai Fung sets opening date for long-awaited Centre Point restaurant

Taiwanese chain Din Tai Fung is to open its long-awaited restaurant at London's Centre Point development

The group was first reported to be replacing the Vivi restaurant at the scheme in 2018 but plans stalled.

Din Tai Fung Centre Point will see chefs create the group's famous Xiao Long Bao in an open kitchen with dishes delivered to diners by robots.

It will be a sister site to the group's two London restaurants in Covent Garden and Selfridge's department store, which opened in 2018 and 2022 respectively.

The 13,500 sq ft Centre Point space will seat 218 diners and feature a separate bar area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Tottenham Court Road.

The menu will include rice and noodle dishes, salted egg yolk custard lava buns alongside its famous soup dumplings, which feature 18 precise folds and take chefs 40 minutes to prepare.

XueFeng Bai, UK Director at Din Tai Fung, said: "We are honoured to be opening our third site here in London, a reflection of the ongoing loyalty of our customers. Having come from humble beginnings, our cooking remains true to that with unchanged recipes for over half a century. We look forward to more people discovering our brand and are excited to grow the Din Tai Fung family."

The opening comes after JKS Restaurants relaunched the ground floor food hall at Centre Point as Arcade Food Hall in April.

Din Tai Fung was founded by Yang Bingyi in 1958 as a cooking oil business in Taiwan, before opening its first restaurant in 1972. It now operates more than 150 restaurants worldwide.

The group's UK expansion has been spearheaded by BreadTalk Group, a multinational food and beverage brand owner.
