Dishoom to open restaurant on London’s South Bank

Dishoom has submitted plans to open a restaurant in the former Las Iguanas site on London’s South Bank.

According to planning permission documents filed with Lambeth Council, the Indian restaurant group is looking to build a “bespoke verandah” over the existing dining area to “enable the space to be made more versatile throughout the year”.

Las Iguanas, which underwent a restructuring plan earlier this year, appears to have quietly closed its doors, with Google listing the Unit 14 Festival Terrace site as “permanently closed”.

Meanwhile, Dishoom has been expanding rapidly in recent years following a £300m valuation, with plans for a new site opposite London’s Borough Market reported just last month.

As well as bolstering its regional footprint with launches in Leeds and Glasgow in the past year, the restaurant group has set its sights on its first site in New York City, believed to be opening in 2027.

In June 2025, Dishoom also opened its first rooms above its Permit Room restaurant in London’s Notting Hill.

It marked the group’s first foray into accommodation after launching its debut Bombay-style old Irani café in London’s Covent Garden in 2010.

Permit Room Portobello was also Dishoom’s first London-based Permit Room, which started as a spin-off bar in 2023 in Brighton before being rolled out across cities such as Cambridge and Oxford.
