Film crew behind Anthony Bourdain biopic to cast ‘real restaurant kitchen staff’

The film production company behind Anthony Bourdain’s upcoming biopic has made a casting call for “real restaurant kitchen staff”.

A notice on Backstage, the career platform for actors, read that production company A24 is seeking kitchen staff – “male, black, early 20s, speaks with a Tennessee accent” – preferably with real experience working in a kitchen.

It added no prior acting experience is required, while “dynamic, unique personalities” are a plus.

The role is suitable for those aged between 18 and 35 and filming will take place from 26 May to 4 July in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The movie, titled Tony, will portray the late chef when he was in his early 20s, working in a kitchen in Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod.

It was reported the Holdovers (2023) breakout star Dominic Sessa has signed onto play Bourdain, while the film is being directed by Matt Johnson, who is best known for directing and co-writing the movie BlackBerry (2023).

Bourdain was an American chef, author of Kitchen Confidential and television personality, who died aged 61 in 2018.

His success in writing led to a successful television career, which included a plethora of programmes including A Cook’s Tour, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Top Chef.

He also appeared alongside Nigella Lawson as a fellow judge on The Taste. Lawson described Bourdain as “the Mick Jagger of food”.
