1879 Events Management wins Soundwaves 2014 catering contract
Event caterer and hospitality firm 1879 Events Management has landed a contract with South Tyneside Council to act as a catering supplier and ticketing agent for the Soundwaves 2014 open-air concert later this month.
The company, which is a subsidiary of Sunderland AFC, will act as both catering supplier and ticketing agent for the event, which takes place on 23 August at Bents Park in South Shields.
As part of the new contract, awarded following the success of the inaugural partnership at SoundWaves 2013, the box office at the Stadium of Light will sell tickets for the Bank Holiday event, while 1879 Events Management will provide catering services for the thousands of music fans expected to attend.
Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader for South Tyneside Council, said: "SAFC and 1879 Events Management did a fantastic job at SoundWaves 2013 and we're absolutely delighted to be partnering with them again for this year's event."
1879 Event Management, which manages catering and events at the Stadium of Light, National Glass Centre and the newly-opened seafront café and bistro, the Beach House, Sunderland, has worked on a number of high profile events since being established in mid-2012.
It recently won a three-year contract to provide catering, hospitality and ticketing services at the LGBT festival, Newcastle Pride, which was attended by more than 68,000 visitors earlier this summer.
The new SoundWaves contract, one of its largest with a local authority, also follows the launch of the company's first stand-alone eatery, the Beach House at Roker beach.
Gary Hutchinson, commercial director for SAFC and 1879 Events Management, said: "In the past 18 months, 1879 Events Management has utilised its growing experience to cater for a wide range of events, including SoundWaves 2013.
"We are delighted that this has resulted in the continuation of our partnership with South Tyneside Council and look forward to catering for a whole host of visitors at SoundWaves this year."
