2007 Skills Challenge Hospitality launched
Chefs, confectioners and service staff have been invited to enter the 2007 Skills Challenge Hospitality competition.
This year's event will see competitions in Pastry & Confectionery, Cookery and Restaurant Service.
It aims to test the technical aptitudes of participants, who must work to a set brief within an allotted time scale.
National winners from this year's competitions may be selected to represent the UK at the 2009 WorldSkills competition, in Calgary, Canada.
WorldSkills is the largest skills event in the world, and consists of a four-day competition where 48 countries meet and compete in 40 different skills, ranging from cabinet making to web design.
Chef-restaurateur Brian Turner said: "We are a service industry, where the difference between ‘good enough' and ‘excellent' is crucial.
"I am pleased that the sector's brightest stars are being given the chance to test themselves in competition against their peers, and look forward to witnessing some exceptional demonstrations of skill in 2007."
Chefs, confectioners and service staff in employment, training or education have until 16 March to apply to enter. Call 0800 612 0742 or go to www.SkillsChallengeCompetitions.org.uk
