2015 KP of the Year competition now open for entries

Do you know a star kitchen porter who deserves to win the title of KP of the Year 2015?

The competition, now in its third year, is organised by The Caterer in partnership with Winterhalter has been heavily subscribed over the last two years and last year's winner Steve Ball, KP of the Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe will be a hard act to follow.

Ball, a career KP has spent more than 30 years at the Manor House. Frances Atkins, chef and co-owner of the Yorke Arms near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, and a 2014 competition judge, said: "Steve demonstrated great commitment and loyalty to the Manor House and proves that you can have a long and fulfilling career as a KP."

The judges will be looking for entries that highlight the high level of kitchen knowledge held by KPs, that demonstrate the vital role they play as part of the brigade and most importantly how they pass on their passion and act as a role model for other KPs in the industry.

Stephen Kinkead, managing director, of Winterhalter, said: "We launched this competition in 2013 and have been delighted with the response from restaurants, pubs, schools and hotels across the country, but last year was phenomenal. We had more than a 100 entries from businesses across all sectors.

"This year we will be launching a National KP Day on the 22 June. Working in support of Springboard UK we aim to raise some well-deserved funds for the charity and highlight the role KPs play as the hub of the kitchen. The campaign will launch on twitter via @kpoftheyear later this year."

The 2015 KP of the Year prize includes £1,000 cash for the individual winning KP and a celebratory meal for the KP and their friends and family in a casual dining restaurant of their choice. The winner's place of work will win a prize too, in the shape of one of Winterhalter's warewash products worth up to £8,000.

The deadline for entries is the 9 August 2015 and applicants will be judged by a panel of industry experts (no presentation necessary) with the winner announced in September.
