Action on school meals

The article "Caterers are confident as healthy deadline looms" (Caterer, 8 June, page 14), which addressed the new school meals guidelines, mentioned that food manufacturers have been slow to adapt products.

While some food manufacturers have sat on the fence and waited to see what the Government's decision was on school meals before acting, RHM Foodservice has dedicated the past few years to reformulating its products and working with schools to help deliver healthier menus.

Our commitment to the education sector has been demonstrated by recent product developments reducing levels of fat, salt and sugar - lowered in line with Hungry for Success guidelines in Scotland.

This has enabled us to better provide school caterers with the products they need and, because of a huge amount of hard work, our products are already compliant with the new guidelines to be put into practice by September.
