Ampersand launches Very Hungry Caterpillar healthy eating range for children

Iconic venues caterer Ampersand has today launched a new children's healthy eating range at Hampton Court Palace under the iconic the Very Hungry Caterpillar (VHC) brand.

The range, which will be rolled out to all three Historic Royal Palaces that are catered for by Ampersand, will feature seasonal fruit pots, crudités and healthy snacks alongside popular sandwiches.

The menu aims to encourage young diners to choose from the healthy selection to store in VHC branded boxes.

First published in 1969, the Very Hungry Caterpillar book by Eric Carle has sold 30 million copies worldwide and Ampersand has secured exclusive rights to VHC branding for its new healthy food range.

Consultant nutritionist Amanda Ursell advised Ampersand on the meal composition and commented: "I have a four and two-year-old and I usually take a packed lunch with me when we go out for the day because of the unhealthy options I so often see on offer at visitor attractions.

"I can say, hand on heart, I would be happy for my little ones to tuck into a Hungry Caterpillar lunchbox. The selection of choices has been carefully thought through to both appeal to children's likes and parents desire for their offspring to eat food that is good for them."

Paul Jackson, managing director of Ampersand, added: "We have developed a healthy selection of children's meals under the VHC brand at our locations because kids deserve to eat healthily in order to feel good and perform well. Good food should be tasty too - and can be lots of fun for kids to eat."

The VHC range goes on sale from 3 March and children's television cook and presenter Katy Ashworth will be onhand at Hampton Court to stage a free Very Hungry Caterpillar Show to celebrate the launch.
