Bill Toner to join Jerry Brand at Host
Former Aramark boss Bill Toner has joined Jerry Brand's Host as non-executive chairman, five years after the rumours of the move first began.
Speculation that Toner would join independent caterer Host Contract Management began circulating soon after he stepped down from his role as chief executive of US-owned Aramark in early 2005.
While the move was strenuously denied at the time, it has since emerged that Toner was seriously considering it until a personal tragedy resulted in a change of heart.
Managing director and founder Jerry Brand said Host was poised for growth and needed someone with the experience of running a big caterer to help drive the business forward.
"Bill is a loyalty-driven person with a fantastic set of experiences from a corporate point of view, whereas I'm Mr Entrepreneur: I've always started small companies, built them up and sold them. I needed someone at board level to help me," he explained.
Toner added: "I couldn't commit to Jerry or the business until I was certain I could add value. After I met the Host team and looked at the contracts I found I really liked what I saw; it all made sense to me."
