Bite sees breakfast sales rise 7% after introducing porridge toppings
Contract catering company Bite has raised its breakfast sales by 7% after introducing a range of porridge toppings.
The offering, called ‘Pimp Your Porridge', was introduced six weeks ago and includes porridge made from oats or rice, topped with granola, honey, maple syrup, blackberries, raisins, fresh and dried fruits, grated apple and cinnamon, strawberry jam or chocolate spread.
Simon Macfarlane, director of operations, explained: "We found that our customers were all too aware of the health benefits of porridge but were getting bored of forcing down a bland bowl of creamy oats every morning, just because it was good for them.
"So we came up with the idea of spicing it up with some deliciously different toppings, which the chefs in all our units can rustle up for their customers at the start of the day.
"Our ‘Pimp your Porridge' campaign has gone down really well; in fact we have seen a revitalised sales increase in breakfast by about 7% across the majority of our contracts. This was also largely due to our customers grabbing an extra coffee while purchasing their porridge. The toppings have certainly introduced some welcome variety, and customers have also been sampling our alternative ‘rice porridge' recipe too."
