Brexit ‘out' pie slightly ahead in Square Pie's latest poll
With less than a week to go until the polls open for the EU Referendum, early indications show a slight lead for Square Pie's ‘Out' Brexit debate pie.
The British fast-causal restaurant group said the ‘Out' British beef, wonky veg and home brewed ale pie is currently ahead with 53% of the vote.
Earlier this week, ‘Out' had a stronger majority with 58%, but the ‘In' pie consisting of a sausage union of Toulouse, chorizo, bratwurst and pepperoni in an Italian tomato sauce has managed to claw back.
The firm said the results have swayed back slightly and are now in line with some of the latest opinion polls.
The six-strong restaurant group has been selling two Brexit special pies since 2 June and will continue to offer the options until polling day.
Both options are also available via delivery business Deliveroo and the fillings can be selected as a classic pie or as toppings on baked jacket potatoes.
The restaurant group said the public has become increasingly confused between the claim and counter claim in the run-up to the referendum and it is suggesting that customers vote with their stomachs rather than their heads or their hearts.
Square Pie, which launched in 2001, operates six restaurants locations in Old Spitalfields Market, Westfield London, Westfield Stratford City, Bluewater, The O2 and its most recent opening, Birmingham Grand Central. The pies are made from natural ingredients and avoid artificial additives or hydrogenated fats.
There will be a daily Square Pie Chart on squarepie.com where customers can view up-to-date sales of the Square Pie favourite for the EU referendum on 23 June.
