Carbon Trust launches scheme to help businesses reduce energy costs
The Carbon Trust has launched a new business to help UK firms reduce their energy costs and install greener, more efficient technology.
The Carbon Trust Implementation services provides independent, objective evaluation of the most effective energy efficiency and renewable technologies for a company and a means of choosing trusted, accredited suppliers to carry out the work and help customers run competitive tenders for their projects.
Myles McCarthy, MD of the Carbon Trust's Implementation services, said hospitality businesses, particularly hotels, could benefit from big savings by making their systems more efficient before they invested in expensive projects like solar panels.
He said: "Upgrading lighting controls, I estimate, would take between one and two years to pay back. There are very attractive low-hanging fruits in terms of efficiency projects that hotels can engage with, which will allow them to upgrade their equipment and make their business more attractive.
"Upgrading heating systems, boilers, thermostats, ventilation, a/c, looking at leisure facilities, your pumps, swimming pools - in all of those things there's a massive opportunity for savings. Energy prices continue to climb so the cost of not addressing that waste becomes year-on-year more and more crippling for businesses."
