Caterplus wins £300,000 contract at second Milton Keynes retirement village

Caterplus has won a £300,000 catering contract at a new Milton Keynes retirement village.

Shenley Wood Village is the second retirement village in Milton Keynes to be serviced by the contract caterer. It currently provides meals at Lovats Field Village in Willen, which opened in 2007.

The first phase of 184 apartments is now open, while a further 116 homes will be complete by the end of 2012. Caterplus will provide the catering services at the restaurant and bar.

Paul Robottom, managing director of Caterplus, described Shenley Wood as the first retirement village the company has been involved in through its ongoing relationship with ExtraCare.

He said: "We have also just begun a consultation at the Nottingham retirement Village Lark Hill that will see Caterplus taking on the catering operation at the end of April.

"Not everyone in the village wants to eat out all the time, but the key for us has simply been to ensure that we provide high quality, fresh food and drinks in the type of surroundings where residents want to spend time catching up with neighbours - whether that's over a meal or just a coffee."

Nick Abbey, chief executive of ExtraCare, added: "We know that we can rely on Caterplus to provide good quality fresh food, but that if some residents do need more tailored solutions, their team is always on hand and will go the extra mile to ensure our residents get what is required."

Both Milton Keynes retirement villages were launched as part of a partnership between Milton Keynes Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, the Department of Health and the ExtraCare Charitable Trust.
