Centerplate wins £5m Royal Ascot public catering deal
Centerplate has continued its winning streak with a new five-year public catering contract at Royal Ascot, worth in the region of £5m.
The company's UK division, formerly the Lindley Group, has been appointed to develop and manage the public catering services and food offer in the Silver Ring and Heath Enclosure during Royal Ascot.
Centerplate will introduce a range of bespoke retail catering concepts at its first season at Royal Ascot, which runs 17 to 21 June, with a celebration of British produce being the focal point.
These include a range of hand-held food such as fish and chips, 100% British beef burgers, and locally sourced British sausages and a farmers' market style outlet called Sourced Market, staffed by Centerplate personnel, will also provide a selection of picnic options.
Bars will be stocked with traditional real ales and ciders, premium British spirits such as Sipsmith gin and sparkling English wines.
Adam Elliott, president of Centerplate's UK division, said that few events could match Royal Ascot for being so quintessentially British.
"What better place to showcase and celebrate the great spectrum of the British food experience - from the robust dishes and ales and ciders associated with farmers' and street food markets to the more refined and genteel tradition of taking tea, strawberries and cream or enjoying oysters with a refreshing glass of English sparkling wine," he added.
Alastair Warwick, chief operating officer at Ascot, said he was impressed with the holistic approach that Centerplate took to assess the opportunities to develop the public catering services during Royal Ascot.
