Compass Group restructures HR team
Compass Group has restructured its HR function in an effort to improve its support of individual units and frontline catering staff, Caterersearch can reveal.
The change, overseen by HR director Robin Mills who joined from Woolworths last year, is designed to reduce duplication and has resulted in a number of redundancies.
One source suggested Compass has cut around 30 HR staff (the department employed 95 people as of last January) although a spokesman for the company suggested this figure was wide of the mark.
The spokesman did however confirm that Caroline Beard, head of talent management at the caterer, had left the company in January. Jane Modger, previously resourcing and retention director and more recently in charge of HR for its fine dining operations, is believed to have been made redundant.
In a statement, Compass said: "Following an extensive review of the HR team and structure, we have decided to make a number of changes so that will enable us to be more responsive within the business. These changes represent the first steps in moving towards a new way of working for the HR team."
It is thought likely that the new set-up will be based on the business partner model, where most administrative HR functions are centralised while more strategic areas such as talent management are handled by specialists.
